The Troy University "Sound of the South" Marching Band is a precision collegiate ensemble that has developed a national reputation for its quality musicianship, full-bodied sound and visual presentation. The "Sound of the South" entertains audiences regularly at all Division I-A Trojan home games and many of the away games. Recent Division I-A "away" appearances include University of Nebraska (Lincoln, NB), the University of Arkansas (in Little Rock), Mississippi State (Starkville, MS), Middle Tennessee State University (Murphreesboro, TN) and the University of Alabama-Birmingham (Birmingham, AL). In fact, over the past two years members of the "Sound of the South" have performed for over 450,000 fans: from Miami, Florida to College Park, Maryland; from Mobile, Alabama to Lincoln, Nebraska. The band has been featured on the Warner Brothers Marching Band Promotional Compact Disc since 1998, which is distributed each year to over 38,000 bands worldwide. Additionally, the "Sound" has been featured at numerous bowl games, including the Peach Bowl, the Senior Bowl, and the Blue-Gray All State Football Classic. It is a favorite of professional football audiences throughout the South as a result of its many halftime performances for the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The "Sound" has been featured on the ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, FOX Sports, MizLou, FOX SportsSouth and USA television networks. The band was one of four college bands selected for the 1986 Coca Cola Centennial Parade. It has represented the State of Alabama in the Presidential Inaugural Parades of 1969, 1973, 1984, and 1989. In recent years, the "Sound of the South" has performed with Grammy Award-winning artists Brian McKnight, Lee Greenwood and The Temptations.
